The 5th annual CQ Jam benefitting WaterStep recently happened on September 9th, 2017 at Captain’s Quarters. The event has grown over the years and this year the event expanded to provide nine hours of entertainment and music to the waterfront.
We look forward to the CQ Jam every year and are especially proud to have been a part of the event this year. The event benefits WaterStep, which is a non-profit organization headquartered in Louisville whose mission is to “provide safe water to communities in developing countries through empowerment, equal access, and transformative hope.” Below are details about the event and how we were involved.
5th Annual CQ Jam Benefitting WaterStep
This year’s CQ Jam was the most successful event to date that brought in a record crowd of over 1,000 people who donated over $8,000 at the check-in gate alone. All sponsors exceeded the amount of money raised to cover all production costs, which means a $4,000 donation went straight to WaterStep. Additionally, $1,000 was raised for Hurricane Harvey and Irma relief efforts and Captain’s Quarters donated a record-breaking percentage of sales to WaterStep.
Performers included Lonza Bartlett of The Legacy Platters, Motown artist AJ Mullins, The Dons, Jeff Walter, The Moon Dogs, The Slyk Band, The Rockin’ Rotary Band, and the students of Fleur-De-Lis Academy of Ballet and Dance performed throughout the day. Gently used shoes and funds were collected throughout the 9 hours to support WaterStep’s mission to provide safe water to communities in developing countries. The shoes are sold to an exporter to be reused and repurposed, which mitigates tons of landfill waste. The funds received from the exporter are used to bring clean water to those in need.
Another highlight includes WaterStep gaining several new subscribing members as monthly donors and an announcement of a new raffle. The Kentucky Derby Extreme Dream Experience is a brand new raffle that was introduced this year. It includes events from Thursday-Sunday during Derby Week and is expected to raise $20,000 for WaterStep. The icing on the cake? This was the first event in four years without rain! We can’t wait for next year.
