We have capabilities to provide some chronic pain– or interventional pain management– treatments in-house as the start of your treatment plan. If your care should continue longer term, however, we refer you to a trusted facility that specializes in chronic pain.
Defining Chronic Pain
Chronic pain consists of painful medical conditions considered to be long-term which can be treated by the prescribing of controlled substance pain medications. It is defined as any pain that lasts 3 to 6 months or more and can have effects on your daily activities such as getting dressed, sleeping, or leaving your home to run errands.
Prescriptions with Chronic Pain
Chronic pain is managed with more aggressive treatments and sometimes requires a stronger does and longer term prescriptions of pain medication, muscle relaxants, anti-inflammatories, nerve pain medication (anticonvulsants), and more.
Other Aspects of Chronic Pain Management Plan of Care
Sometimes, a physician will recommend durable medical equipment (DME) such as a back or knee brace or a TENS unit as part of the management of a patient’s chronic pain. Other types of treatment may include topical medication such as pain creams, ointments or gels, and sometimes even pain patches.
